Preparing for My First Cockatiel is a beginner’s guide book for you and your children to help you know what it takes to get ready for bringing home your very first cockatiel.

Unlike most books about cockatiels out there, this one doesn’t try to cover everything, but stays focused on what you need to be ready for your new life with your bird.

Full of personal stories and photos, you will get to know what life with cockatiels is like from my many years living with and loving them. A fun book for anyone who loves animals!

Second edition (2019) features an updated travel section and photos featuring Arwen.

Elkin Hardcoves’ Review: 5-Stars

This is a well-written, excellent and informative read. It’s very obvious the author has done her research well and cares a lot about birds. Furthermore, the combination of personal exemplar and anecdotes, combined with straightforward language makes the novel easily digestible for anyone — from the child, who is old enough to consider taking care of a pet to the venerable aged, who has had pets before, but not a cockatiel. Indeed, it is these personal sketches that I find so endearing, having read previous works by the author before.

I’d give Preparing for my first Cockatiel: A beginner’s guide to starting your life with the world’s most popular pet Cockatoo, by Laurel A. Rockefeller, a five out of five.

Sherry Terry’s Review: 5-Stars

I think the lettering on the cover needs to be tweaked so it’s easier to read, but other than that – this is a must-have book if you’re thinking about getting a cockatiel or know someone who is.

Preparing For My First Cockatiel: A Beginner’s Guide to Starting Your Life with the World’s Most Popular Pet Cockatoo by Laurel A. Rockefeller is wonderfully written and appropriate for all ages. The pictures are pretty awesome too.

Laurel has done her research like she always does when she writes. The book has all the information you could ever want and need to know about these birds. I love this book! What a fantastic guide for bird owners, first-timers and old hands at it.

Very informative and written in an entertaining way so reading doesn’t feel like a school lesson with a boring teacher. I’ve always said that Laurel has a way with words that makes learning fun.

Now I want to get a couple of cockatiels myself. And. Now I know why my dad’s parrot would scream so much. All around, this is the only book you need for your first pet cockatiel.
